When buying a used chopper engine, there are quite a few things that you should pay attention to. How does the engine drive? How does the engine brake? Is the chopper well maintained? Is there a maintenance history available? etc. If you have a list of important things in advance, you can be sure that you will not go wrong.
A new chopper, just coming off the production lines, can be very expensive. On the other hand, second-hand choppers are certainly affordable. These second-hand choppers are generally no more expensive than a regular 'street motorcycle'.
A chopper often focuses on a minimalist look, they ride low to the ground and have a long front fork. A bobber is also a minimalist motorcycle and often have a chopper as a base. A typical bobber has the front fender removed and the seat is suitable for only one person. So the difference is in the stripped, chopped, parts and the line of the motorcycle.
Bobbers come in all kinds of different price ranges. A new bobber easily costs €17,000, but you can buy a second-hand bobber for €500. Of course this depends on what condition the bobber engine is in. Therefore, pay close attention to what you buy and decide whether you want to make a bobber yourself or whether you want to buy someone else's project.
A chopper is a motorcycle where the frame has been modified and a longer front fork is mounted. This causes the tires to be further apart. In addition, with a typical chopper, all unnecessary parts have been removed from the engine. Everything that is not necessarily needed for driving is 'chopped'. That's why these motorcycles are called "choppers."
A bobber isn't necessarily a good bike for long rides; bobbers are not very comfortable. This is often in the saddle which is intended for only one person and has small springs. Of course, everything can be done to make it tolerable, but it will not excel in comfort.
